48v Li-Ion batteries are designed to have almost zero effect on memory. Majority of rechargeable batteries tend to lose their maximum energy capacity when they are recharged often without depleting their stored energy fully. This is a common problem with nickel batteries, NiMH and NiCd but not with Li-ion batteries.

Unlike other batteries, Lithium Ion batteries have a low self-discharge of up to 1.5% in a month. This suggests that the battery has a longer lifespan when not in use courtesy of the slow discharge rate. 48v lithium-ion batteries are expensive to manufacture. Compared to Nickle battery, 48v Lithium Ion battery is 40% higher in production cost. Lithium Ion batteries need an onboard computer circuitry to manage and make sure both the current and voltage lie within the safest limits. The circuitry is what makes this battery expensive.

  • Sensitivity to high temperatures

Unlike other batteries, 48v lithium batteries are susceptible to high temperatures. They are likely to degrade when they are exposed to too much heat in case the device overcharges. A lot of heat causes the lithium battery to degrade at a higher rate than it normally would.

  • Safety concerns

48 Lithium Battery is potentially hazardous because it can explode when overcharged or heated. The explosion is caused by the decomposition of electrolytes which increase the cell’s internal pressure. More so, an explosion can occur when overheating ignite the internal circuits. Because 48v Lithium Ion batteries are susceptible to an explosion, its transportation is somehow limited when being shipped in large quantities.
